About the Role

We are looking for an R&D Technician to join our team in Elkton, MD. In this role, you will join a collaborative and diverse team that values partnership, continuous improvement, and shared achievement of business goals and objectives. You will engage with scientists and engineers to support new material technologies and product portfolios. In this hands-on evening-shift (2nd shift) role, you will perform testing that directly impacts product development and business success, requiring responsiveness, attention to detail, and a commitment to high-quality results. Standard hours will be 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM Monday through Friday.

This position will be located at our Appleton North facility in Elkton, Maryland.

Pay and Benefits:

• $28 - $38 per hour
• This role is eligible for an additional $2/hr shift differential pay for evening, night, and weekend shifts.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory functions safely, accurately, and efficiently, including hands-on testing, sample preparation, and test method development.
• Support high-priority projects in a fast-paced environment by delivering timely results and enabling rapid learning and decision-making.
• Support development, document, and implement test procedures and methodologies.
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory and testing equipment.
• Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records in accordance with established procedures.
• Analyze and interpret data using Microsoft Office applications and statistical software, such as JMP.
• Communicate test results, technical issues, and emerging trends to project champion.
• Actively participate in product quality decisions by providing data-driven insights and recommendations.
• Partner with internal customers on characterization and validation projects to implement new testing capabilities and methods.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance laboratory efficiency, testing capabilities, and overall team performance.

Required Qualifications

• Associate degree in a scientific field or engineering discipline; OR minimum of 2 years of experience supporting testing activities in a laboratory environment.
• Ability to perform both routine and non-routine R&D testing with a high degree of accuracy, quality, and timeliness.
• Ability to write, follow, and maintain standard operating procedures.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Strong observation skills with the ability to document detailed and accurate results.
• Proven ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and maintain effective organization in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated adaptability and ability to respond effectively to changing business priorities and project needs.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to proactively share results, identify issues, and collaborate with stakeholders to develop solutions.
• Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within a collaborative, team-based setting.
• Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive working environment and valuing diverse perspectives.
• Ability to travel up to 5%.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience working with laboratory, testing, or automation software, including developing programs, recipes, sequences, or JMP scripts.
• Familiarity with JMP statistical software and strong mathematical skills, including knowledge of basic statistical and data analysis.
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, including the ability to troubleshoot equipment and perform basic maintenance and repairs.
