About the Role

W.L. Gore and Associates is looking for a Veterinary Pathologist to be employed at the research facility located in Flagstaff, Arizona as a member of the Biosciences’ Pathology team that supports the development of state-of-the art implantable medical devices, including but not limited to vascular grafts, endovascular and interventional devices, cardiac devices, surgical meshes and sutures.

The successful applicant will have demonstrated the ability to perform post-mortem examinations and microscopic analysis of various laboratory animal species and human medical devices, accurately perform data entry activities, and “gross-in” specimens in preparation for histological processing. The successful applicant will also demonstrate the ability to understand and adhere to institutional animal care policies, collaborate with internal and external medical device experts, and interpret data for regulatory body reporting. Responsibilities

• Gross and microscopic analysis of tissue and implanted medical technologies to include cardiovascular, soft tissue, and other applications including performing necropsies on large and small animal species, grossing in specimens, and obtaining histomorphometric data
• Collaborating with product development teams to design and execute in vivo studies
• Compiling data and writing concise reports to meet business timelines
• Presenting data in written and verbal form to a broad audience
• Collaborating with appropriate associates (e.g. study directors, scientists, veterinarians, regulatory personnel, product development engineers, product specialists, statisticians, etc.) and external experts (e.g., physicians, veterinarians, engineers) as part of the evaluation process
• Providing scientific and technical support (providing input as a subject matter expert) for regulatory submissions and subsequent communications with regulatory bodies
• Ability to be hands-on, self-motivated, and able to function both independently and withing a team environment
• Knowledge of and adherence to institutional animal care policies, federal animal welfare regulations, and good laboratory practice (GLP) guidelines
• Additional responsibilities as required within the scope of the position

Required Qualifications

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD) degree
• Diplomacy with the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (DACVP) specifically with Anatomic Pathology
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrates initiative
• Ability to work independently as well as within a team
• Demonstrate the ability to multi-task, including task delegation
• Demonstrate the ability to be an effective problem solver
• Feels comfortable around animal testing and research and working with fresh and fixed tissue
• Must be able to lift approximately 50lbs independently
• Ability to travel up to 5%

Desired Qualifications

• Experience conducting or supporting non-clinical studies that comply with good laboratory practice (GLP) regulations
• Working experience as a pathologist in the medical device industry with experience developing nonclinical risk analyses for medical devices
• Experience in teaching or training others to anatomy, veterinary medicine, veterinary pathology, histopathology, microscopy, or a similar field
