The Opportunity

The Ready helps complex organizations redesign how they work—from bureaucracy to adaptability, from top-down control to distributed leadership. As the pace of change accelerates, our work has never been more relevant.

We’re hiring our first-ever commercial-focused team member to lead our BD strategy. Until now, we’ve mostly grown through reputation, referrals, and repeat clients—with exceptional retention on both sides. You’ll have the rare chance to shape the go-to-market function at a firm with strong demand, a sharp point of view, and a deep bench of collaborators.

This is an execution-focused role for someone who excels at outreach, relationship-building, and creating momentum with senior decision-makers. You’ll be on the front lines — opening doors, starting conversations, and helping us grow our impact in sectors like manufacturing, public services, and financial services.

You won’t be alone. You’ll have access to:
  • A powerful library of IP, frameworks, and thought leadership.
  • A popular podcast and established brand voice.
  • A team of expert practitioners and internal support across marketing, design, analytics, and performance.

What You’ll Do

Own
  • Shape your own GTM playbook: You'll have the autonomy and support to craft the strategy, tools, and rhythm that work best—then lead the charge.
  • Generate pipeline: Identify and pursue leads through strategic outreach, networking, and content amplification.
  • Close complex deals: Lead consultative conversations with senior execs to scope high-value engagements.

Partner With Others To
  • Craft compelling pitches: Work with internal experts to shape proposals and messaging that win.
  • Refine our commercial strategy: Use market insight to sharpen who we serve, how, and with what.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally: Align BD with org capacity and delivery priorities.
  • Turn thinking into action: Partner with internal teams to create the assets and campaigns that bring our message to life.

What You Bring

  • 5–10 years in business development or consultative sales—ideally in org design, future-of-work, or strategy consulting.
  • A track record of closing large, complex deals ($250K+), often with multiple stakeholders and long sales cycles.
  • Comfort selling into at least two of our core sectors: manufacturing, financial services, public sector, or tech.
  • Executive presence and credibility with CHROs, COOs, and Heads of Transformation.
  • Experience building or reimagining a sales function—not just working within one.
  • Excitement for how we work: self-management, transparency, and distributed decision-making.
  • A truly collaborative and curious approach and philosophy.
Bonus Points
  • Experience at a boutique or nontraditional consulting firm.
  • Existing network in transformation/future-of-work buyer circles.
  • Familiarity with org design, systems thinking, or design thinking.
  • Ability to turn ideas into decks, emails, and GTM collateral fast.

Why Now

This is a pivotal moment—for our clients and for us. You’ll help large, complex organizations say yes to the transformation they urgently need. And you’ll help The Ready grow with focus, intention, and impact.

If you’ve ever wanted to build a sales engine from scratch—with a trusted brand, proven offer, and world-class team behind you—this is your moment.

About The Ready

We're here to change how the world works by helping organizations of all shapes and sizes become more adaptive, equitable, meaningful, and human. It takes an unusual person to disrupt decades of tradition and guide hundreds or thousands of people through an experience that demands their bravery, vulnerability, and curiosity. It takes conviction to join a decentralized self-managing public benefit corporation where reputation matters more than position.

The people that make up The Ready are specialists in the ways of organizational culture and transformation. Yet within that world, we are generalists drawing freely from the principles and practices of dozens of theories and hundreds of iconoclastic firms. We are coaches, facilitators, academics, psychologists, technologists, and corporate veterans who have found each other in our quest to make work better. Our backgrounds are varied but our ambition is united.
