THE ROLE:

The Head of Creative leads the creative department within GAIN Creative Studio, responsible for the quality, craft and output of all creative work produced by the Studio.

Working within GAIN's broader ecosystem of Conversion, Customer Science, Performance and Experience, this role focuses on delivering distinctive, effective creative work that connects brand, content and digital execution. The Head of Creative ensures the Creative Studio produces ideas and assets that are strategically sound, culturally relevant and designed to perform across channels.

This is a hands-on leadership role, combining creative direction, team leadership and collaboration with cross-functional teams. The Head of Creative partners closely with Client Leadership, Strategy, Growth teams to bring ideas to life.

The role is responsible for building a strong creative culture within the Creative Studio, raising the standard of craft, and ensuring GAIN's creative output is competitive with leading UK agencies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Creative Leadership

Creative Direction

  • Lead the creative output of the Creative Studio across campaigns, content and brand work
  • Provide hands-on creative direction across key projects, from concept through to execution
  • Ensure ideas are clear, compelling and adaptable across channels and formats

Creative standards & craft

  • Champion and uphold the highest standards for creative quality assurance across all studio output
  • Champion strong craft across design, art direction, copy, motion and content
  • Ensure work is culturally relevant, on-brief and aligned to client objectives

Project oversight

  • Oversee major campaigns, brand development projects and high-impact deliverables
  • Support teams in developing and refining ideas, ensuring consistency and quality
  • Client & project contribution

Client engagement

  • Present creative work confidently to clients, articulating ideas and rationale clearly
  • Build trusted relationships with key client stakeholders on creative matters

Pitch & growth support

  • Play a leading role in new business, bringing energy, curiosity, and confidence to pitches and growth opportunities, with a commitment to bold, brave ideas that stand out and cut through
  • Contribute to new business pitches and proposals as the creative lead for the studio
  • Help shape creative responses that are compelling, clear and deliverable

Executional excellence

  • Ensure work is delivered to a high standard, on time and within scope
  • Oversee the translation of ideas into high-quality outputs across formats and channels

Efficient production

  • Work with production and project teams to deliver work efficiently and at scale
  • Support the use of tools, templates and emerging technologies to improve output
  • Team leadership & development

Team leadership

  • Lead and inspire a multidisciplinary team including designers, creatives, copywriters and content specialists
  • Provide clear direction, constructive feedback and mentorship

Talent development

  • Support the growth of creative talent within the studio
  • Help identify and nurture emerging talent

Creative culture

  • Foster a collaborative, ambitious and supportive studio environment
  • Encourage curiosity, experimentation and continuous improvement
  • Creative reputation
  • Contribute to raising GAIN's creative profile through strong, visible work
  • Support case study development and creative storytelling
  • Encourage participation in awards where appropriate (without this being a primary KPI)
  • Collaboration across GAIN

Integrated working

  • Partner with Strategy and Client teams to interpret briefs into strong creative opportunities
  • Collaborate with Experience teams to ensure brand thinking is reflected in digital products and platforms
  • Work with Performance and Conversion teams to develop effective campaign and content assets

Data-Informed creativity

  • Use insights from Customer Science & research data from Experience to inform creative development
  • Support test-and-learn approaches, adapting creative based on performance data
  • Lead the exploration and integration of AI tools, from discovery through to adoption, ensuring they enhance rather than replace the human craft at the heart of our output

Requirements

Essential experience

  • Experience in a senior creative role (e.g. Head of Creative, Creative Director) within a progressive social first creative or integrated agency
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating high-quality work across brand, digital and campaign execution
  • Experience leading small-to-mid sized creative teams or studio environments
  • Proven ability to deliver work across multiple channels and formats

Capabilities

  • Strong understanding of modern content and campaign ecosystems (social, digital, performance-led creative)
  • Ability to translate strategy and insight into clear creative ideas
  • High level of craft across at least one core discipline (design, art direction or copy)

Leadership qualities

  • Hands-on, collaborative creative leader
  • Clear communicator, comfortable presenting work internally and to clients
  • Invested in developing people and improving creative output
  • Pragmatic and delivery-focused, with a strong attention to detail
