Business Unit: GAIN Experience: We create user-centered experiences that drive measurable business impact for public and private sector organisations.
Team: Experience
Reporting to: Lead UX Designer / Design Director
Location: Bristol or London / Hybrid
ABOUT:
GAIN is a creative-led, insight-driven company that blends data, tech and creativity. We believe the best ideas emerge where intelligence and creativity unite, where insight sparks imagination, and where innovation turns possibility into progress.
We are explorers of new frontiers, shaping bold strategies that move people, brands, and businesses forward. Individually and together, our specialist teams provide the vision, data, and confidence brands and organisations need to make braver, more impactful decisions.
Today as GAIN, we work as a united force, using data to fuel creativity, and technology to unlock new possibilities. As imagineers we don't just embrace innovation - we engineer it, transforming information into action, and ideas into breakthroughs.
This is where rebel thinking, smart technology, and data-driven creativity shape the future. Through our five specialist teams: Creative Studio, Conversion, Customer Science, Experience and Performance. Individually, and together, we work to fuel your growth, and deliver measurable impact.
THE ROLE:
We're looking for a Mid-Weight UX Designer to take creative ownership of interaction design across high-impact client projects. You'll be the design lead on key workstreams, shaping user experiences for enterprise platforms, complex B2B services, healthcare applications, and consumer-facing digital products that demand both strategic thinking and exceptional craft.
This is a role for a confident designer who can work independently, mentor junior team members, and bridge the gap between strategy and execution. You'll lead design thinking from concept through to delivery, collaborating with UX researchers, visual designers, developers, and client stakeholders to create interaction designs that solve real business problems while elevating user experience standards.
You won't just be executing briefs, you'll be helping to define them, challenging assumptions, and using your experience to guide clients toward smarter, more effective solutions.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential:
Constant curiosity: You can think critically and understand the data, knowing where you need to take action. You're analytical with the ability to investigate and resolve.
Pushing boundaries: You'll make the most efficient use of technology, suggesting process improvements.
The power of our imagination: You're a problem solver who goes the extra mile. You'll know the best approach to take with clients to get results.
Making it happen: You're proactive and you know you can make a difference. You use your sound judgement when making decisions and you take responsibility for your decisions and actions.
Putting people first: You'll build effective relationships with people, internally and externally, understanding both business and client needs.

- A strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end project ownership—showing strategic thinking, interaction craft, and measurable impact across diverse projects
- Expert-level proficiency in Figma with demonstrated ability to build complex, component-based design systems and interactive prototypes
- Deep understanding of interaction design principles, design psychology, and usability heuristics with the ability to apply them strategically across different contexts
- Proven experience designing responsive, multi-device experiences with sophisticated interaction patterns that adapt intelligently across breakpoints
- Strong knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG AA) and practical experience designing inclusive interactions for diverse user needs
- Experience working directly with development teams, understanding technical constraints, and producing clear, implementable design specifications
- Excellent stakeholder management and presentation skills—comfortable leading workshops, presenting to senior clients, and navigating feedback diplomatically
- Ability to work autonomously, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced agency environment
- Experience mentoring or supporting junior designers
- Experience leading design on projects in regulated or complex industries (healthcare, life sciences, financial services, public sector) where compliance and trust are critical
- Advanced prototyping skills using ProtoPie, Principle, Framer, or After Effects to demonstrate sophisticated interaction behaviours and animated transitions
- Understanding of front-end development (HTML/CSS/JavaScript fundamentals) to inform feasibility and collaborate more effectively with technical teams
- Experience designing AI-enhanced interfaces, intelligent search systems, personalization engines, or adaptive user experiences
- Knowledge of analytics and user testing tools (Hotjar, Maze, UserTesting) and experience using quantitative and qualitative data to validate design decisions
- Familiarity with Agile or Lean UX methodologies and designing within sprint-based workflows
- Experience contributing to or leading design system initiatives at scale
- Exposure to motion design principles and how animation enhances usability and brand expression
