Business Unit: GAIN Experience: We create user-centered experiences that drive measurable business impact for public and private sector organisations.
Team: Experience
Reporting to: Lead UX Designer / Design Director
Location: Bristol or London / Hybrid
ABOUT:
GAIN is a creative-led, insight-driven company that blends data, tech and creativity. We believe the best ideas emerge where intelligence and creativity unite, where insight sparks imagination, and where innovation turns possibility into progress.
We are explorers of new frontiers, shaping bold strategies that move people, brands, and businesses forward. Individually and together, our specialist teams provide the vision, data, and confidence brands and organisations need to make braver, more impactful decisions.
Today as GAIN, we work as a united force, using data to fuel creativity, and technology to unlock new possibilities. As imagineers we don't just embrace innovation - we engineer it, transforming information into action, and ideas into breakthroughs.
This is where rebel thinking, smart technology, and data-driven creativity shape the future.
Through our five specialist teams: Creative Studio, Conversion, Customer Science, Experience and Performance. Individually, and together, we work to fuel your growth, and deliver measurable impact.
THE ROLE:
We're seeking a Junior UX Designer to join our Experience team and craft interaction designs that make complex digital experiences feel effortless. You'll be working across diverse projects—from life sciences platforms and healthcare applications to enterprise tools and consumer-facing services—designing the micro-interactions, interface patterns, and user flows that turn strategic thinking into intuitive digital products.
This role is perfect for a designer who loves the craft of interaction design: someone who thinks deeply about how interfaces behave, how users navigate complex systems, and how smart interaction patterns can reduce cognitive load and guide decision-making. You'll collaborate closely with UX strategists, visual designers, developers, and researchers to create prototypes that demonstrate how experiences should work—not just how they look.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential:
Constant curiosity: You can think critically and understand the data, knowing where you need to take action. You're analytical with the ability to investigate and resolve.
Pushing boundaries: You'll make the most efficient use of technology, suggesting process improvements.
The power of our imagination: You're a problem solver who goes the extra mile. You'll know the best approach to take with clients to get results.
Making it happen: You're proactive and you know you can make a difference. You use your sound judgement when making decisions and you take responsibility for your decisions and actions.
Putting people first: You'll build effective relationships with people, internally and externally, understanding both business and client needs.

You'll collaborate closely with UX strategists, visual designers, developers, and researchers to create prototypes that demonstrate how experiences should work—not just how they look.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design detailed interaction patterns, micro-interactions, and animated transitions that enhance usability and communicate system behaviour clearly
- Create interactive prototypes at varying levels of fidelity using Figma or similar tools to demonstrate user flows and interaction models
- Develop comprehensive UI specifications, interaction documentation, and redline deliverables that guide development teams through implementation
- Design responsive interaction patterns that work seamlessly across devices—desktop, tablet, mobile—ensuring consistency in behaviour and feel
- Collaborate with developers to ensure interaction designs are technically feasible and perform smoothly, making pragmatic adjustments when needed
- Apply design psychology principles and established UX heuristics (recognition over recall, feedback, affordance, consistency) to interaction solutions
- Contribute to the development and evolution of design systems, creating reusable interaction patterns and component behaviours that scale across products
- Participate in usability testing sessions, observing how users interact with prototypes and iterating designs based on behavioural insights
- Work with accessibility guidelines (WCAG) to ensure interactions are inclusive—keyboard navigable, screen-reader friendly, and operable for users with varying abilities
- Present interaction concepts and prototypes to clients and internal stakeholders, articulating design rationale with clarity and confidence
- Stay current with emerging interaction design trends, tools, and technologies, bringing innovative thinking to enhance our craft
Essential:
- 1-2 years of experience in interaction design, UX design, or product design (agency, in-house, or relevant placement/internship experience)
- A strong portfolio demonstrating interaction thinking—user flows, wireframes, interactive prototypes, and clear problem-solving through design
- Proficiency in Figma (essential) with demonstrated ability to create interactive prototypes and component-based design systems
- Solid understanding of interaction design fundamentals: affordance, feedback, consistency, error prevention, progressive disclosure, and mental models
- Knowledge of responsive design principles and how interaction patterns adapt across breakpoints and device types
- Awareness of accessibility standards (WCAG AA minimum) and how to design inclusive interactions
- Ability to document interaction specifications clearly for handoff to development teams
- Strong communication and presentation skills—comfortable explaining interaction rationale to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Enthusiasm for working collaboratively in a fast-paced, multi-project agency environment
- Experience with advanced prototyping tools (ProtoPie, Principle, Framer, After Effects) for high-fidelity interaction demonstrations
- Understanding of front-end development constraints (HTML/CSS/JavaScript fundamentals) to inform technically feasible interaction designs
- Familiarity with animation principles and motion design as they apply to UI (easing, duration, choreography)
- Experience designing for complex domains (B2B SaaS, enterprise software, healthcare, life sciences) where interaction clarity is critical
- Knowledge of designing AI-enhanced interfaces, intelligent search experiences, or adaptive user interfaces
- Exposure to user research methods and how behavioural insights inform interaction decisions
- Experience contributing to or maintaining design systems and component libraries
