Principal BESS & renewable energy consultant

We’re excited to be hiring an experienced BESS & Renewable Energy Consultant with a focus on growing our German market presence. In particular we are looking for an expert who is knowledgeable in BESS and flexibility assets with experience in providing advisory services to investors and lending institutions.

The position is based in Germany with on location. Applicants must have the right to live and work in Germany. You will be joining a growing and dynamic international team, already well established in the European Battery Storage and Renewables sector, who are located in UK, France, Spain, Italy and Portugal. Everoze has been active in the German market since 2018 and is now establishing a permanent local presence.

This is a unique opportunity to shape scaling our German business at a pivotal moment in the energy transition. You will help build and expand our presence locally, supported by an established team of ~90 consultants across Europe, including various German-speaking colleagues.

As well as delivering high-quality work for our clients, this role will also have special responsibility for:

  • Providing technical leadership to our German team
  • Driving our market and client development in Germany in line with Everoze strategy
  • Building our team and office through recruitment, mentoring and support

This role will be supported by our wider international team and you will also work with colleagues on projects across Europe. You will have the opportunity to travel to our other offices to learn how we roll at Everoze. We are looking for motivated, driven and experienced consultants who want to help us build something special in Germany.

Salary: A competitive salary related to your experience, plus pension scheme, annual profit share and route into company ownership.

Location: Germany (hybrid working possible).

Everoze plans to establish a permanent presence in Germany, and the location of our future office will be influenced by where our senior hire(s) is/are best placed to grow the team. Preferred hubs in Germany include Hamburg, Frankfurt, Berlin and Freiburg, but we remain open to other locations where the right candidate can thrive (opportunity for hybrid working).

Hours: Normal office hours with a healthy level of flexibility. Preference for 5 days per week but will consider candidates who would prefer part-time options.

Your role

Your work will be mainly technical and commercial consultancy services to Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and wider energy flexibility projects, potentially extending to solar photovoltaic (PV) or the onshore and offshore wind sector.

You will contribute to technical advisory projects, due diligence, and strategic support for developers, investors, and financial institutions. You advise clients in the German market as well as support other geographies like Spain, Portugal, France, Italy and the UK.

Key responsibilities

  • Technical Due Diligence: Assessment of BESS projects (technology, design, contracts, financial model, etc.) for acquisitions or financing – as a project director, project manager and in supporting roles.
  • Project support: Advising project developers from design through commissioning.
  • Site visits: Participation in testing, construction monitoring, quality control, and stakeholder interface.
  • Business development: in BESS, hybrid and potentially other renewables sectors, to build client relationships, team and win work in Germany.
  • Project management: Managing multiple projects with internal and external resources.

Requirements

  • Experience
    • Engineering degree, or equivalent (Master’s level).
    • Demonstrated electrical engineering experience,
    • Minimum 10 years’ experience in consultancy, including:
      • Knowledge of technical due diligence process and specific technical review areas for BESS / hybrid projects and minimally one renewable energy technology.
      • Relationship building skills and a strong network within the German renewables market, particularly with investors and/or financial advisors.
      • Capable of determining commercial implications of technical risks for different transactions (equity / debt etc).
    • Good understanding of German local requirements and country-specific topics (i.e. grid, land, environmental, permits, hybridisation with other technologies, etc).
    • Experience of developing and mentoring junior consultants.
  • Consultancy Skills
    • Comfortable adapting work and priorities to meet deadlines / clients’ needs.
    • Enjoys working as part of an international team and supporting colleagues.
    • Able to manage subcontractors.
    • Able to write clear, concise and accurate reports in English.
    • Able to manage concurrent & different tasks and prioritise workload.
    • Track record of developing and building lasting client relationships.
  • Languages
    • Native/fluent in German and English.

  • Comfortable in a self-managed, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Ability to collaborate with multicultural and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Self-driven and able to work at a commercial pace to meet our clients’ needs.

Nice-to-haves, any of the following:

  • Experience in other renewable technologies (solar, offshore wind, etc).
  • Advisory skills on grid and electrical systems.
  • Advisory skills in ESG DD and Sustainable finance.
  • Expertise in French, Italian and/or Polish markets/language or in other European and worldwide markets.
