Sustainability/ESG Consultant – Renewable Energy

We’re excited to be hiring an experienced Sustainability/ESG Consultant with a focus on renewable energy. In particular, we are looking for an ESG professional with experience of working within consultancy or financial institutions. You’ll join a dynamic, international team with strong due-diligence and sustainability services in the UK and Europe with ambitions to grow into emerging markets.

Salary: Competitive basic salary, pension scheme, annual profit share, route to company ownership

Location: UK – Bristol/ Brighton/Glasgow office (with opportunity for hybrid working).

Hours: Full time, open to part-time (minimum 4 days per week)

Your role

As a sustainability specialist, you’ll provide sustainability and commercial consultancy to lenders, investors, and renewable-energy developers in the UK & Ireland, and support our core markets in France, Spain, Portugal and Germany. Specific activities include:

  • ESG Due Diligence;
  • Climate risk assessments;
  • Equator Principle reviews;
  • Human rights impact assessments;
  • Business development; and
  • Developing and mentoring junior consultants.

Essential skills and qualifications

  • MSc in Sustainability / Environmental Sciences or similar relevant degree;
  • At least 5 years experience of undertaking ESG due diligence within a consultancy firm or in-house team within a financial institution;
  • Experience of working on renewable energy transactions (project finance / acquisitions);
  • Deep knowledge of environmental (e.g., carbon, biodiversity), social (e.g., labor, human rights), and governance (e.g., board practices, anti-corruption) risks;
  • Experience undertaking or appraising climate risk assessments.
  • Knowledge of global ESG frameworks (Equator Principles, TCFD, ISSB, SFDR, GRI);
  • Ability to deliver clear and concise reports to clients highlighting ESG risk, impacts and potential mitigation strategies.

Soft skills required for the position

  • Comfortable working on projects with evolving scopes, in the context of competing priorities and managing client deadlines;
  • Capable of determining investment implications of ESG risks;
  • Staying up-to-date with ESG trends, regulations and best practices.
  • Track record of developing and building lasting client relationships; and
  • Able to write clear, concise and accurate reports in English.

Nice-to-haves, but not essential

  • Membership of a relevant professional institution (Such as Institute of Sustainability & Environmental Professionals);
  • Experience in other European and worldwide markets;
  • Additional language skills (desirable: Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, Italian).
