Chiltern Music Therapy

Chiltern Music Therapy

Posted on Dec 21, 2025

Do you love making music and want to share it with others? We’re looking for confident instrumentalist volunteers to join a range of welcoming community groups. Whether you play strings, brass, woodwind, percussion, or something a little different, your skills can help bring people together, boost confidence, and create joyful shared experiences. No professional background required, just enthusiasm, reliability, and a desire to make a positive impact through music. Join us and use your instrument to strengthen community connections and make a real difference.

Safe in Sound is a music therapy group for adults living with dementia and their carers. The group offers a safe, welcoming space for connection, creativity, and expression through music. Carers are actively welcomed and take part alongside those they care for.

Chiltern Music Therapy is a not-for-profit organisation using music to help people of all ages connect, communicate, and thrive. We believe in a caring world where music therapy is a transformative thread in everyday life.

Together, we harness the power of music, inspire through human story, and fascinate through science to light up a network of champions.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Volunteer Community Musician to support the Safe in Sound group in Chesham. Sessions use gentle, inclusive music-making to support wellbeing, communication, and shared moments of connection for people living with dementia and their carers.

You will take part in music-making and support the group manager and therapist to help create a calm, inclusive, and supportive environment.

What You’ll Do

  • Take part in group music-making in a welcoming setting
  • Help create a safe, inclusive atmosphere
  • Encourage connection and expression through music
  • Support participants and carers alongside experienced staff

Who This Role Is For

  • Confident musicians who play an instrument
  • People interested in community wellbeing and dementia-inclusive work
  • Friendly, patient, and reliable volunteers
  • Those able to support the music therapist during sessions

What You’ll Gain

  • A chance to make a meaningful difference through music
  • Experience in community music and dementia-informed practice
  • Support from a caring, experienced member of staff

If you’d like to use music to support connection and wellbeing for people living with dementia and their carers, we’d love to hear from you.
